‘Clearest ever’ photo of big cat roaming Britain discovered *

New documentary explores image found among decades-old mail of a muscular cat with the appearance of a panther lying among grass and scrub
"The photo unearthed in a filing cabinet was found with some text on the reverse side, explaining that the image was “the last sighting” of the “Beast of Smallthorne”, an area of Stoke-on-Trent"
But no mention of the one I remember: "The Beast of Barnet"! One that didn't get away, Lara was captured and sent to London Zoo. She is long dead but her cubs live on in various zoos around the world.

Re: The Beast of Smallthorne?
Picture of Lara when she was at London Zoo.
From memory, a photo of her then thin, bedraggled, anaesthetised body was originally posted in the The Barnet Times with the story of her capture. A year later the Times revisited the story to see how she was getting on and this looks like the picture published at that time of a much better fed and happier looking Lara.

Lara, the wild cat dubbed the Beast of Barnet, may be off to warmer climes in the quest for the lynx of her dreams.
