Like, I suspect, many people, I've had a holding in BNC for many years - over 18 years in my own case.

I'd long ago almost written them off as a complete dog, as my average acquisition price was around £7 a share, and for years they've traded far below that price, falling to an all time low of about £1.33 in September 2020.

However, I started noticing recently that they were steadily picking up, and they've continued to do so on a regular basis. At the close today they'd risen to £5.36, and for a very large cap like BNC to 4-bag in 5 years is a pretty remarkable achievement.

But on looking at it more closely I noticed that the price has increased by approximately 50% in just the last 10 weeks, which is quite extraordinary.

It seems to have been very much under the radar, as although I see a lot of investment discussion I don't recall having seen anything about BNC.

Of course, I'm hoping that the price will continue to rise so that I can at least break even, but I can't see any obvious reasons for the recent strength, and I wondered if any other BNC holders might have any views.

I am a recent BNC purchaser (it's Santander bank really but for a casual reader, they may not realise). Think it was Lootman's post that once said he was into JPM and that made me think more of about that and banks in general. Think JPM was on a PE of 12. Thought that was cheap, so started looking around at US and UK and EU bank stocks and found quite a few inexpensive bank stocks. Am into HSBA, ABN, BCN, BNP, BBV, JPM and OSB (possibly a mortgae bank), sold GS to get back into HSBA. HSB A/C is a long term hold but sell for a holiday.

BBV seems to be cheap too. Banks are probably necessary.
