Very sad to hear this overnight. I was a big fan of his even though I had never heard of him until 1999 when he released his album of duets.
Had the good fortune to see him perform outdoors twice. Once at Austin City Limits and once at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. And indoors at the raucous San Francisco Warfield theatre.

Funny, I never knew that he wrote Sam Stone. Now that was a protest song. A hymn to all the returning Vietnam veterans who deserved better. Look it up. Warning, it's sad.
