Berlin Babylon
This German series is showing on Netflix. Based on novels by Volker Kutscher, the series is set in Berlin during the last years of Weimar, beginning in 1929. Basically an 'unhollywood' version of Cabaret together with startling nightclub scenes and a very clever detective narrative set within the political intrigue of Nazism v Communism.
It is up there with Breaking Bad, the Wire and the Sopranos as one of the great tv series.
Enjoy

Are you sure? Babylon Berlin is a sky series, and I don't see it on Netflix.
I believe season 4 filming has restarted after a covid shut down.
Great series though, might recap the first 3 before the 4th comes out.

Re: Berlin Babylon
I watched Babylon Berlin on NOW TV, which has a lot of Sky shows. Not sure if its still available on this platform, but if so this may be an option if you don't want to commit to yet another subscription model.
Excellent series on many levels, including a strong political 'warning' for the current age (ie the undermining of democracy by extremism).

Same for me. No sign of Babylon Berlin on Netflix UK.
It is on Sky Atlantic on demand (I've just checked using the Sky Go android app on my phone)

The beauty of NOW is that you don't have to commit to a sub, you can turn it on and off as you please. Which reminds me having watched zerozerozero and Mare of Eastown it's time to unsubscribe again.
Netflix has Babylon Berlin in the US. It is still on NOW in the UK.

Re: Berlin Babylon
All that decadence has clearly addled my brain. I actually watch on Amazon Prime* as I have a Firestick - very useful for using on TVs in France.
What about the music - the song in Episode 2 of series 1 - Zu Asche, zu Staub (Psycho Nikoros) sang in the nightclub to amazing dancing - is brilliant. In fact the dancing and singing (Brian Ferry also great) is exceptional.

I love the Firestick

Just take it to any TV and plug it in
all your settings, lists and favourite channels go with you
what's not to like

Well apart from the title and the channel I think you got everything right!
Had a relisten earlier... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEFdrQcrjTU
I think a sign of it's achievement is that it manages to make what is now a historical time period seem as novel and modern to the viewer as it would have seemed to the characters.

Thx for this Terminal. This is epic. Atmospheric, mesmeric with great music. In fact has the lot.

Yes indeed - just halfway through a second viewing - there are just so many 'good' parts with such excellent acting. Why is it that the usual suspects are held up as the great TV series* but BB has had such little coverage in the UK? Surely not just because of the subtitles?

* tried a second viewing of Mad Men and the Wire in the last year or so - covid al all that - the latter holds up well but having second thoughts about the former

People have to watch it to be amazed by it. The continental series with significant followings over here as far as I'm aware tend to be on freeview, often BBC4, and honestly speaking being German rather than Scandy, French, etc. probably doesn't help.
Dark on Netflix is another German series well worth a look.

The last series of the latter was always stretching credulity too far, solid evidence for my 4 good series rule.
