Fans of the BBC Shakespearean comedy “Upstart Crow” may like to know that a stage version is being made. First performance is on 7th February 2020 at The Gielgud Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, London and runs for 11 weeks.
David Mitchell and Gemma Whelan have already signed up. No news yet on other cast members.

For those who’ve never heard of it, Upstart Crow is a BBC sitcom about the life of William Shakespeare. It’s written by Ben Elton and has more than a touch of Blackadder about it, as well as Reginald Perrin (and, so I'm told, "The Office"). Elton really knows his Shakespeare.
18 episodes and 2 Christmas Specials, all of which are on the iPlayer. You don’t need to know much about Shakespeare, I've watched it with people who barely know the plot of any Shakespeare play (and assumed it would be boring) who’ve found it funny (and were surprised that they did).
Here's a short clip (Shakespeare has just finished his 154th sonnet):

Re: Upstart Crow – the stage show
Upstart Crow the stage show is returning to London later this year, 23rd September to 3rd December, at the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, London. David Mitchell (William Shakespeare) and Gemma Whelan (Kate) will be returning; the rest of the cast is to be confirmed.
The first run was halted thanks to the lockdown in 2020 (once again Shakespeare was shut down by the plague). I was fortunate enough to see it before they closed the theatres, and I've already booked for an early showing.

Thanks for letting us know, I've seen every episode at least 3 times over, one of my all time favourite programmes from the BBC.
