I'm almost at the end of this podcast; really enjoying it!

I have to thank everyone here for the suggestions.

I finished the tunnel 29 just before this one; which was my second podcast after "the infinite monkey cage" which I've been listening on and off to for a few years.

I didn't realise I should make the time, or use my "empty" time for these until I saw this post.

I think I might be hooked, (though I do occasionally have HGTTG flashbacks as I'm listening; which might say more about the state of the planet than me)

Thanks greatly
-sd

Happy to help :)

I must try TIMC next, I have enjoyed the live broadcasts when I have occasionally listen to them.

John

It's great!
Starts a bit staid but you can pretty quickly hear it evolve in to a polished performance.

Not a podcast but I've just listened to "Nature Bang" on R4 live. Discussing the nature of self. Fascinating, some very interesting thought experiments.

Anyone who enjoyed The Cryptoqueen would probably like "The Fake Heiress" on BBC podcast now.

Again, not a podcast as such but an atmospheric ghost story for the dark winter nights. Excellently narrated as well.

Dark Matter - in 10 x 15 minute episodes.

Don't think in all the years that I ever watched or saw Sir Ken Dodd and his Diddymen. Or if I did, from brief glimpses, and think I thought he was rather stupid or didn't understand his humour.

Well I just heard an absolute brilliant podcast on him, more so relating to his Tax dodging activities with George Carman QC defending him("Some accountants are comedians, but comedians are never accountants") but in 45 minutes the program seemed to pack in his whole life story and I must say that I have more admiration for him than I ever had before(which I never had to start with as knew nothing about him). In fact listened to it twice to get a better appreciation.

Its called "Happiness" on Radio 4 and I hope you can find it on BBC sounds. I thought it was superbly done.

Enjoyed the Ken Dodd play, thanks for the nod.

Not a podcast, but ....

I've just caught this on Radio 4. It's an interview with the father of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, the poor girl who died last year due to a food allergy after eating a Pret-A-Manger sandwich. It is, of course, a very moving account, but it's also an extraordinary and thought provoking listen and not what I expected at all.

An unsolved crime podcast on BBC sounds, 12 episodes of twists and turns in tracking down the killer of two young backpackers in 1978, whose bodies washed up on a beach. Really excellent investigative journalism that takes the reporters across the US and Central America in search of the truth.

Really excellent stuff.

Here's one I've just listened to. Careful if you listen to it in the office as it caused me to well up at the end of the last episode. Very beautifully written and acted.

"Conversations from a Long Marriage"

Joanna Lumley and Roger Allam play a couple who have been married ‘for ever’. Children of the Sixties, they’re still free spirits, drawn together by their passion for music and each other. Their warm and witty conversations dance around everyday chores and appointments as well as dealing with problems within long-held friendships, and tackling their own frustrations with each other. But underlying it all is their enduring love for each other and their desire to keep the passion alive.

I am fortunate (?) that my workplace is an hour from home so I spend quite a bit of time listening to podcasts. Some of the podcasts I enjoy in no particular order are:

Revisionist History with Malcolm Gladwell
Friday Night Comedy - Radio 4
Desert Island Discs
In Our Time
IC
Last Word
Political Thinking
The Infinite Monkey Cage
The Joe Rogan Experience (not the MMA or comedy ones though - quite a lot of effing and jeffing and each episode tends to be over two hours long.)
The Public Philosopher
Red Box

Cheers, OLTB.

Desert Islands Discs with Ian Wright was fantastic, but prepared to have a box of tissues handy. Enclosed link. Suggest though if interested that you don't read it until after you hear the podcast as quite a few spoilers.........

'The Great Post Office Trial'

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000jf7j

Started this week, now up to episode 4 of a 12 part series. If you are not familiar with the Horizon IT scandal then it's a shocking story of cover up and miscarriages of justice.

Follow-up to last year's recommendation - episode 9 just put up by BBC Sounds. Sweeps up the last 8 months or so with some startling revelations. Interesting references to a law practice well known to Private Eye readers as well as crisis management company Chelgate.

John Lennon at 80. Radio 2 podcast. 2 Episodes, Sean Lennon interviews Elton(how many knew that Elton John was Sean's Godfather?) and Julian, his half brother plus Macca. See how many of you Beatles Fans recognize who was playing the guitar on one particular track. I still today marvel at just the sheer and utter brilliance of the Beatles but particularly John..."I just believe in me".

Just finished listening to these. As a lifelong fan there wasn't much I didn't know (Elton's godson & the 'How Do You Sleep' solo etc), but enjoyable all the same. Something discussed by Sean & Julian was the development of their music. I still find it staggering that there was less than 4 years between 'Love Me Do' and 'Tomorrow Never Knows'. No one has ever come close ...
