SPOILERS BELOW

just started watching Hinterland on Netflix... as an ex-Aber student its great seeing stuff so recognisable even after 35 years!

Good storylines and denouments etc ... but Im somewhat confused over Series 2 Episode 3 - regarding Daniel Protheroe and the murder of Beynon. It seemed to me that DCI Matthias knows that Protheroe didnt kill his "mother" or Beynon. But there is no explanation of who did kill Beynon, or what really happened to Protheroe's "mother". And no explanation of how Protheroe ended up being Daniel Protheroe as a child after disappearing, presumed drowned aged three.

Did I somehow miss something ? Or was it really so unresolved?

I've looked on moviechat.com but there's nothing there that helps except "keep watching" so can only assume these are somehow addressed in a later episode maybe even in series 3?
