8/10. Live-action version of what is presumably the original morality fable tale rather than the Disney cartoon. Definitely original and unusual.
It's a PG film, but my guidance to parents would be that there are plenty of bits in this film that would likely give youngish kids nightmares. Quite interesting for adults.

Beautiful visuals in this. The actual story is a morality tale, and has lots of deeply weird stuff with a variety of grotesques in a fantasy world set in 19th century Italian village and countryside. There are some funny bits, but mostly it's just bizarre, but in an interesting way that keeps you wondering what's going to happen next.
I particularly enjoyed the school classroom scene. It also features the star of Life is Beautiful, Roberto Benigni, who won an Oscar for his role in the Italian concentration-camp comedy-drama, La Vita E Bella (Life is Beautiful), which is a fantastic film if you've never seen it.
