Bloodlands

#389102

Postby terminal7 » February 23rd, 2021, 11:29 am

Just started on BBC1, a very intense NI detective drama very much grounded in the Troubles. Dark, brooding - certainly not light entertainment. It stars James Nesbitt with an excellent support cast. Just when you thought it was safe to forget about sectarian divide - we have the NI Protocol, Arlene on our screens and Bloodlands.

I thought it was great and I wasn't that excited about it beforehand. Can't wait for next week.

...Nor me.

One possibility - he didn't shoot him? Waving the gun around, but the shooter was somebody else? We shall see.

Didn't look like that to me, just watched it again three times......but one never knows. Anyway, hope it speeds up a bit as frightfully laboured innit?

'intense' for me.

Maybe if it was in Swedish with subtitles nimnarb would like it!

Actually at times I do switch the subtitles on - depends on which part of the sectarian divide is appearing.

Perhaps if that was the case I might understand this a bit more. What is going on? Loads of pickled herrings abound. Methinks a supposed kidnapped Emma Brannick Is Goliath and will eventually materialise. Not intense for me at all, a bit too slow, too plodding and at present, slightly confusing, "intensely" so  Roll on next week. Can't wait. :)

So do we know now? On the face of it, yes we do - Brannick did shoot him, obviously. Or did he? :)

I am unsure... It all feels a bit 'fishy' to me. This week we didn't actually see what transpired on the island, only the apparent aftermath. Then again, did anyone notice the forensic report: "He was shot from about ten yards away." That's thirty feet, surely further away than Brannick was standing? Is this a clue, or am I making another mistake?

Again, we shall see.

Aha, no I didn’t pay attention to that clue! How many more episodes to come do I have to torture myself?

Indeed at the autopsy it was stated that the shot was from a distance of 10 metres. Tom was holding his gun about metre away from Cory's head. Hence Tom did not shoot Cory based upon what we have been shown. So why does he bury the gun?

The list of candidates appears to be narrowed three suspects by Birdy's research: Tom Brannick (James Nesbitt with terrible constipation), his boss Jackie Twomey (surely the fall guy at present) and Dinger. I think all three were were present at the autopsy. I also think it was Dinger who made the statement about the 10 metres. On questioning, he later stated that he could not falsify any analysis he had undertaken (double and triple checked).

Putting all this together  you get the possibility that Tom and Dinger are in cahoots to implicate Twomey.

...Well! No wonder he goes around looking constipated.

So he DID shoot him. What was with that "shot at 10 metres" 'clue'?

Apparently there is going to be a second series. :o

Oh dear me so many inconsistencies and gurning for NI - no wonder Tom looked continually constipated - I assume James Nesbitt hadn't received the final pages of the episode 4 script until just before final shooting and had expected the Pope be fingered because like the rest of us he was bemused how Tom could have sorted how to get everybody to arrive at the remote house in the correct sequence over relatively long distances culminating in his daughter also arriving there. BTW - how is he going to explain shooting Keenan in the head at short range as a second shot - surely the autopsy will show this? Sure the same autopsy team of the 10 yards fame.

An utter shambles!

At a push the snow could have been near one of the peaks of the mountains of Morne say near Spelga dam whilst surrounding lower lying areas would have been snow free. Of course this could have been inserted to distract the viewers from the even more glaring inconsistences.

The relatively young policeman referring to Southern Ireland as 'the Free State' was unintentionally(?) funny - my father, born 1928, would have called it this, but almost no-one born after this. And obviously I'm no spring chicken.
