Listened to it just the once so far, and it's certainly lodged in my brain and become something of an earworm. Unmistakeably a Beatles song.
Brought back some good memories of listening to Sergeant Pepper in the 6th Form Room when it was released, so I've just listened to the whole album again. "A Day in the Life" is just an absolute classic.

Re: Now and Then
Heard it a few times and it's now stuck inside my head. Watched the video and I found it quite emotional. The Beatles fade from view and the backlight is switched off. The papers are saying that it's heading for No.1, which would be a fitting end.

I've just watched the video. Brilliantly done, and yes..... very emotional, made more so by listening to Lennon's voice.

It's been a heck of a year for musical nostalgia, and watching the above brought back just how moved I was back in the spring when I watched Baz Luhrmann's Elvis biography, and especially the final scene where it transitions from Austin Butler's amazing portrayal and into archived footage of the star himself during one of his last ever performances -

These things seem to hit much harder the older I get...

You can say that again.....That Elvis video...speechless. Haven't seen that for about 20 years.
As for the Beatles and the last song..........just genius as always and feel that if this was say, 55-60 years ago and they had more time to spend on this, has the potential to be even stronger, with certain elements added, but the more I hear it, the better it becomes. Think I read somewhere that George thought it was rubbish at the time..aha, just found something, accept George used stronger words..............

Re: Now and Then
OK, party pooper alert.
The song is OK as a historical relic. There's no way it would have made it onto a Beatles album proper. It might have made it onto a Lennon Ono Band album but his stuff was mostly pretty weak after Imagine.
