Victor Borge
Remember seeing him at the Palladium in 72. This is long.....but for me, he is just pure genius. Who compares, either then or now?

Yes of course of its time. Not sure it would work nowadays.

Re: Victor Borge
I saw him at the Shaftesbury in London. He was a genius and very talented, but I think it might look a little slow, obvious and boring now. I appreciated his humour at that time, but also found him frustrating because he was a terrific pianist but didn't use that talent enough. I just wished he would play something straight through for a change - which he did eventually, but not enough for me.
In his show at the Shaftesbury I waited all evening, then eventually he played a superb light-fingered rendering of music from Mendelssohn's Mid-Summer Night's Dream. Perhaps that was all he could play, but I doubt it.

Re: Victor Borge
There are probably many people who could play the piano as well as or better than Victor Borge but there are probably none that could do what he did.

Not even Les Dawson?
They occupy the same space in my head

I'd forgotten about him and he did the cross dressing thing better I suppose.

Re: Victor Borge
I have a poster from a Victor Borge concert in Dublin that I tried to post here - but couldn't work out how.
Maybe it's not allowed/possible.

Re: Victor Borge
Thanks didds.
I subscribe to another phpBB site where it's possible (easy) to put images into posts and had hoped it would be the same here but apparently not. I'm always a bit wary of posting images onto a cloud site and then post a link to that.
Not to worry. Probably only of very limited interest anyway.
