Or that is how it used to be. I've not been to an auction for 20 years either!

"Guide price" is what estate agents list (inter alia) for houses they're marketing. Auction houses list "estimates". One could say they mean much the same but all professions like to have their own terminology...

The first property auction house I looked at to check, lists Guide Prices.

Edit to add:
Scroll down to the lower half of that link to see completed sales. Quite illuminating to compare the Guide Prices with the sale prices achieved.

So it's a property thing; property, whether sold by estate agents or at auction, has "guide prices" and everything else sold at auction has "estimates".

There's no property for sale in the Pattie Boyd auction.

Pattie talks about it in the video, and in the essay in the lot description.

Thanks, I would pay £60,000 for the original art work all day long. I am astonished the estimate is so low.

And it went for ....... £1,976,000, making up the bulk of the £2,818,184 realised by the sale (not sure if that includes the premiums or is just the hammer prices).

Eric's hand went for £8,820, a bit more than my piggy bank would have been willing to pay. ;)
