Since I read the book, I found it disappointing. It seems like they've tried to turn it into a comedy, featuring some very well-known actors from GOT and The League of Gentlemen.

stumbled on the trailer last night and,
given the timbre he's adopted for his delivery,
found it hard to not picture Benedict Wong in his role as Prime in the IT Crowd :?

...will probably still give it a go soon

Nope.

Presumably one needs a TV licence to watch netflix, which rules me out!

Into the second episode, not sure, but hasn't exactly caught my attention so far, as stopped it frequently to do other things. :?:

In panto styley, "Oh no you dont"

I'm not sure if they still do free trials which you could sign up for and as the whole series has been released you could binge watch it.

I have watched the first episode and the jury is out. Wasn't terrible and a bit of a hook. I had planned on watching more than one to try and get into it. I'll try again over the weekend.

Not read the book and have seen comments along the line of it being unfilmable. Some reviews have not given it good scores but I've not read them either to avoid spoilers.

Written by the Game of Thrones team so be careful when you get to season 8 :D

The book is intensely deep and complicated. Most of the time you are confused as to what is happening or where the story is going.
To be blunt, I'm at a bit of a loss as how you could produce it for a Netflix audience, without a lot of work to destroy that complexity.

I don't have Netflix, so won't be watching.

I like the sound of this, but it's one of those I have to ignore as I do not subscribe to Netflix.

I might read the book instead.

I hope my vision pro(if I ever brought one) takes me to nicer places. It's all a bit daft.

You are not selling the book :D

I'm not sure what a Netflix audience is but I must be part of it

I did manage another episode. I can't say I'm hooked yet, more intrigued. Hope to catch a bit more over the weekend.

I would say it all took off for me in Episode 5.

I have finished now and look forward to the next season.

I see there is an alternative Chinese adaptation made by Tencent in 2023.

The pros and cons are weighed here

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/ ... wers-china

Much better than most Hollywood sci-fi films with some deep and interesting question raised.

Probably an 8 out of 10 for me.

It gets better and better. Binge watched it all last night.

Will be a long wait for season 2 as Wiki says they haven't started making it :(

Watched the first 2 episodes last night. Very intriguing and I'm looking forward to the rest, but spending disbelief about events in the "real" world is much harder than believing in dragons!

Just started episode 4 and beginning to get interesting. Thanks for the encouragement as I might have given up except people saying stay for another episode.

Best wishes, Steve

The Three Body problem is the 1'st book. It is possible that Netflix might continue through the entire series, but I doubt it. At some point you may have to pick the books up if you don't want to leave the story part way through.
