I've just come to this thread and was going to suggest 'Mum' to someone earlier who said they'd enjoyed Frazier.
Lesley Manville is superb as a widow whose daft son and even dafter girlfriend live with her. There are the foul mouthed parents of her late husband and then her bitchy sister in law (Dorothy Atkinson) who has some superb lines. Also there is the non-love interest provided by Peter Mullan as a friend of her ex husband.
There are some lovely touches, each episode is about a different month in her life, she's always putting stuff out in the bin in the opening credits and the kids are always eating.
The episodes stand alone but it really does improve if you can watch a few.
