So on Coleyfish's clarified figures a £50K (2016) + intended PA 12.5K + 37.5K basic rate + NIs = about 24% of total.

Using Average weekly/yearly earning on the ONS produces 1997 May equivalent of £27,287 with (May 1997) IT £4,222 and NIC £2,096 = 23.15% of total.
