another of Phil's hilarious quips:
To then-Scottish Tory leader Annabel Goldie :
"That's a nice tie... Do you have any knickers in that material?"
laugh a minute old Phil...
(for the avoidance of doubt this is a satirical post)

I see my other contribution didn't escape the notice of the mods. so how about this one?
Prince Philip, at the opening of a school, 2000
“You send children to school to get them out of your hair. Then they come back and make life difficult for parents. That is why holidays are set so they are just about the limit of your endurance.”
and this:

Isn't it often said that public figures get into more trouble for telling the truth than for lying?
I always enjoyed PP's forthrightness and utter disregard for political correctness. I believe it was at a Commonwealth Conference where he approached a black attendee and asked "Which African country are you from?" The reply was "Birmingham".
Another time he was overseas. Not knowing which country he was in and seeing lots of black faces around he asked "Which African country am I in?". Fair question really but he got a lot of stick for it.
His utter but ultimately benign gaucheness will be missed.

There is a list of one liners here:

It must feel great to be a position to say exactly what we all think, and get away with it. Got to give him some credit for that.

He probably wouldn't get some of his material passed the moderators here! C.

I got one of those Duke of Edinburgh awards when I was a teenager - for my imperialistic hubris, colonial racism and aristocratic diction.

What a difference a day makes.
Yesterday the papers and the media were full of the “Woe is me” farce of a minor Royal and today we have the “I don’t want any fuss” of a true Royal.
It appears that the 41 gun salute was heard across the Channel and latest reports indicate Macron has just surrendered.

Apropos of nothing Mr Fool, Are you on St. Mary's or one of the off islands? I have the pleasure to have been a long time regular visitor in pre- Covid times.

Had he lived but two months more, he would have become one of those individuals now rarely found in our digital age: a grown man who gets a letter from his wife in the post that didn't come through a lawyer.

A friend whose birthday is the same day as Prince Phillip's is going to miss the 21 gun salute.

Padders 72, My family and I spent a glorious year on St. Mary’s, gainfully employed, in the ‘80s. On leaving I thought it appropriate to use said moniker to remind me of the huge mistake of departing those beautiful Isles. Managed a fleeting return visit a few years ago, though, and was even recognised!
