DNA polymerase causes the double helix of the chromosome to "unzip" so the gene can be replicated.

Come come. We teach this to three-year olds, and most primary schools subscribe to The Journal of Biological Chemistry.
DNA polymerase may have been first discovered at New York University, but DNA's structure was first elucidated at Cambridge UK and not Cambridge Mass.
