I think the technical term they use in the US Army is 'clusterf*ck'

Oddly enough that very word popped, unbidden, into my head today. I wasn't even thinking about Afghanistan - I was 'working'

I believe that technical term, as used by USNavy and Marines, is "Tailhook 2.0"

The USAF terminology is "collateral effects"

SNAFU is I think a UK military term

Hmm I don't think so. Yanks use the word SNAFU in everyday conversation to mean "problem" as far as I can tell, i.e. in contexts where the Grauniad would tend to use the word "crisis".
