Re: Advice
If you want to really bring out the flavour of strawberries you have to grind black pepper onto them.
I know it sounds wrong - I took some convincing too.

But not if you are prone to kidney stones. C.Watis wrote:If you want to really bring out the flavour of strawberries you have to grind black pepper onto them.

You can pretty much treat them as you would traditionally tomatoes; they are excellent in a greek salad
and seeing as it's this board, even though it's not a joke, I've always found it amusing that they are called "earth men" (jordgubbe) in Swedish

Re: Advice
Strawberries, balsamic vinegar, sugar, black pepper and cream.
Sounds vile but tastes wonderful.
A sweet and sour idea, but also brings out the flavour of the strawberries (if they had any to begin with)

Again, not great if prone to kidney stones! [I am feeling like a public service broadcaster. C. ]brightncheerful wrote:Black pepper on slices of pineapple and sprinkled with cream: delicious.

Which ingredient affects people who are prone to kidney stones?

Re: Advice
Black pepper unfortunately. I understand it metabolises to oxalate, which if reaching the kidneys unbound can chemically interact with e.g. calcium to form a kidney stone. (Don't eat Spinach either!) Weird, I've thrown a punnet in with a tin of toms before and it came in really well in a "bog" (strawbs were getting a bit over ripe)
- needs a bit of a blitz though
- they're not as juicy as toms
but otherwise they're both seedy, sweet berries
