When I was young, I was poor.
But after years of hard work, I am no longer young.

Is that supposed to cheer us up or just remind us of the harsh realities of life?

Life is something of a joke I think. Worthy of a laugh surely. In fact maybe therefore philosophy isn't really off-topic here? C.

As one ages the joke ceases to be funny until finally at the last gasp one realises that the joke is on us.

Those that don't realise that Pascal's Wager has worse odds than they think due to the need to pick the right God (according to the major religions) may then convert, others have faith and the rest have memories of their loves.

That sounded a lot bleaker than I feel.

On the bright side there is still toast and marmalade and the joys of tea, neither of which should be sniffed at.

WHAT ?? Can't stand the smell of decent (e.g. Wilkin's Tiptee Tawny thick cut - or home made) marmalade?
See your GP IMMEDIATELY (or go to A&E): Proper marmalade on good (e.g. Spelt) toast accompanied by loose-leaf breakfast tea (Asssam/Darjeeling mix) for breakfast is the cornerstone of life and civilisation as we know it.

Coincidentally I drank a pint or three in Tiptree last night (The Ship Inn). The beer is good too. C.

I am so envious, when you were ordering your pint my wife was telling me "you cannot have wine tonight as it's unfair because I will want some and I am working tomorrow".

I have received three cases of wonderful new wine this week and really looking forward to a glass or two.
