That's a bit expensive, assuming the honey is produced by a local bee keeper. It used to be said that the price of a jar of locally produced honey (in the UK) roughly matched the cost of a gallon of petrol which I suppose is c. £6.50 at the moment. Of course that has little to do with the costs of production but the price that the consumer would accept. Anecdotally, I hear that it has been a poor year for the bees so there may be less of the good stuff to buy. Anyway, assuming you actually bought a jar - I hope you enjoy it. According to the BBKA, it takes about 55 000 bee-flying miles to produce a 1lb jar of honey.

No not at all, that's why bees are demanding more honey and shorter working flowers.

Bees? Thieves more likely. They turn up in their dozens and nick stuff from my lavender bushes for returning whence they came.

One of these days i shall invoice the beekeeper for supply of raw material.

Some years ago now my best mate who is almost a world authority on wasps, found in a second-hand record shop an album of the sounds of every common type of wasp in flight. Delighted, he bought it and rushed home and put it on the record player.

He was disappointed to find he recognised none of the buzzing noises on the record so he took it back to complain. He explained to the proprietor of the record shop he was an authority on wasps and the sounds on the record were not the sounds of any wasps he recognised.

The shop geezer inspected the record carefully then looked up and said "I think I can see the problem Sir. You must have been playing the bee side."
