An amazing true story (or, maybe not?)

Joe was travelling on the high speed HSS catamaran ferry from Dublin to Holyhead. He was travelling on to Manchester to spend a week with some friends. With him was Bailey, his six year old Jack Russell dog.

About half an hour into the journey, Joe went out onto the small deck area at the rear of the ferry for a smoke. For those of you who don't know, the HSS is not like a conventional ferry - there's only this one area where the passengers can actually get access to the open air.

Anyway, Joe is standing, having a smoke with Bailey at his side. Bailey then spots a seagull flying very close to the rail and, before my friend realises what is happening, Bailey barks and takes a run at the seagull, disappearing over the rail and plunging into the Irish Sea. Joe runs for help but, bearing in mind this is a high speed vessel, already half-way to Wales and it is, after all, 'only' a dog that has fallen in, it is perhaps not surprising that the captain refuses to turn around to look for the dog.

Joe arrived in Holyhead distraught but travels on to Manchester as planned. He spends a rather downbeat few days with his friends, before travelling back to Ireland, via the same crossing, a week later. He drove to his home near Belfast, parked the car and walked to his front door. You'll never guess what was sitting on his doorstep -
