"It’s also illegal to:
carry most knives or any weapons in public without a ‘good reason’"

And your car counts as a public place if on the highway 9or similar etc)

I wold imagine the need to transport it from the place of purchase to home has to be a good reason. It does seem though that "A court will decide if you’ve got a good reason to carry a knife or a weapon if you’re charged with carrying it illegally." - so indeed it does seem that anybody with arrest powers actually sees the logic in being able to take it home, and/or the CPS seeing that such a requirement is not in the public interest to not recognise.

Of course, there is always the one that slips though the net with a mixture of over jealous officer of the law and brain dead CPS and counsel. And understandably nobody really wants to jump though those hoops!

Point of order. Your car is a deadlier weapon than your knife.

Attempts are made to make laws sensible. They are debated multiple times by different people in both houses of parliament. Which is why they are not a totally idiotic as demanded by the media or public campaigns.

I remember such a campaign some 20 years ago to ban ALL knives!

Even banning all knives in public places would mean that you couldn't transport your table knives from your old house to the one that you had bought. While banning knives in a home would entail serious reconsideration of food preparation and us all learning to use chopsticks.

Oh but that's not what they meant! Well they never did explain how the blanket ban would be watered down to allow people to continue living as they did.

I still think that the ban on knives with green handles that did get through the height of stupidity though.

To me they don't seem any more dangerous than knives with a different colored handle. Banning them won't make the UK safer. I can only assume that they are banned because doing so is no more harmful than banning football (which was once banned).

Which put me in mind of the scene with the tin of pineapples from Three Men in a Boat. If you try to use a swiss army knife as a weapon, I imagine the most likely casualty is surely your own hand!

totally agree.

And a ball point pen is pretty dashed deadly too.

On a different tangent, perhaps, but this morning I bought a squeegee for cleaning the windows. Just the usual T-shaped thing, a thin rubber-edged strip with a short handle attached to it at right angles.

And it came with a printed warning: "Please use this item only for its intended purpose."

My mind is silently boggling. What kind of a pervert do they think I am? :?
