Memory foam

#276223

Postby Rhyd6 » January 9th, 2020, 5:27 pm

One of the joys (huh) of advancing years is that useful gifts such as slippers make an appearance at Christmas. Jolly useful I hear you say, a point of view I'd normally agree with but NOT if said slippers contain insoles made out of memory foam. I'd managed to reach 70+ without coming into contact with this obomination and I wish it had remained that way. Memory foam insoles make me walk like a drunken duck. I have difficulty keeping my balance either tipping forward or leaning backwards, the upright position is not to be found. My grandaughter, who bought me said slippers rang today to ask if I liked them (I had already sent an all purpose thank you note). "They're wonderful" I said lieing through clenched teeth. "Great" she replied "problem solved on Christmas pressies for the forseeable future". I neglected to tell her that the damn slippers are well on the way to ensuring I'll not have a future Christmas.

Do you not know your granddaughter well enough to let her know that they are less than comfortable? They could probably have been exchanged for something more appropriate. They are verging on the dangerous by the sound of it.

We all need a bit of a challenge in our advancing years - I ride a bicycle and row a boat. You seem to have found an alternative - tottering around, giving lots of exercise to your balance organs - and possibly creating a lot of mirth for onlookers. :D

At least the slippers will remember you fondly when you've gone.

Perhaps there's some way to induce amnesia in the damn things?
Like that gadget from 'Men in Black', or something

One solution may be to find a pair of slippers that you actually want (nearer to Christmas 2020!) and then call her to say something like "you know you joked about getting me slippers....? Well, if you still wanted to there's this lovely pair I was going to buy, but remembered what you'd said."

You get what you want, she gets her "problem" solved. Happy Christmas all 'round!

Why do people give each other clothes?

I like to try mine on before buying. Get something that's comfortable on me, not just something that's vaguely my size but could be anything from pure bliss to pure torture.

(saw your subject line, thought you had something to say about the mattresses!)

My memory is gradually turning into foam. Firm in some places, a bit squishy in others. Does that count?
