Why did the Egyptians stop using hieroglyphics two thousand years ago and we now use them on mobile phones.
I am not an Egyptian and I know nothing about hieroglyphics - I can even write them in this post to ask what the devil they mean

Re: Why?
Because the Ancient Egyptians didn't invent the mobile phone?
If I remember correctly(?) the Ancient Egyptian word for cat was (something like): Miew
Hieroglyphics was the 'Official' language, it wasn't the script used for everyday purposes. See the Rosetta Stone: Hieroglyphics, Demotic (everyday script), Greek
What I like about what it says on the Rosetta stone (in flowery language) is, several things!
How it uses names and descriptions recognisable even today:
'Berenice' - Bernice(?)
'Scimitars of Victory' - Anyone remember Saddam Hussein's 'Victory Arch'? An arch in the form of two crossed scimitars. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory_Arch
How it was all nothing more than a political PR campaign for the boy king!
How the last part of the text on the Rosetta Stone describes.... The Rosetta Stone.
So all, very 'alien', and nothing remotely like anything today?

Re: Why?
The Sun God? (a simplified version)
<Cartouche>
Ra - Symbol for Sun
M - Those things look rather like our small letter 'm' to me!
Ss - Those hissy ole snakes! (Or are they staffs?) *
</Cartouche>
"Ra M Ss"? Ramesses! The Sun God.
You too shall speak Hieroglyphics.
https://pharaoh.se/pharaoh/Ramesses-I
* Actually, folded cloth?
