I leave the investment side to OH who would no more comment on any site than jump out of a plane without a parachute. He reads the invesment info and comments on things to me but posting on a board is just not his thing. I on the other hand love TMF, a site where you can gain loads of info, seek help and nine times out of ten get it. Posters here have such a wealth of knowledge on all sorts of things that are helpful, interesting, enjoyable and above all not snobby. I'm hoping that I go before the board!!

Yes but one would imagine that they would be secondary on a site that proclaims itself as Shares, Investment and Personal Finance Discussion Forums.

I joined TMF because it was mainly about shares and peoples' views about shares and investments and so on, not about say wars in Europe or the price of soap. TLF claims to have taken over where TMF left off but it does not. On investment matters it is primarily HYP and on everything else ........well it depends on what is topical.

Dod

Absolutely. As far as I'm concerned the site has been going downhill now for quite some time. I've also noticed that others who used to post on investment boards have been disappearing. TLF seems to be becoming more and more a general chat forum. Not what I signed up for. Thus I have been reducing my investment input. No point in talking investments with myself and Dod.

I totally agree with your first sentence.

I think the investment side of the site is dying, because of all the non-finance postings. There are now so few investment postings that I find it no longer worth the trouble in trying to participate. I might as well pursue my investment interests elsewhere, which is what I am now doing.

,

the site is well worth it for just the non investment posts. - a rich source of information on questions and everyday problems.

there are some interesting investment posters on here which i find very useful , not least mr contrarians.

but most of the investment posts relate to high yielding shares and HYP , which i have no interest in and dont read.

You do not have to read any posts that you do not wish to. I read all the posts on the Investors' Rouind Table forum because I moderate it. Having done that, I click on "Unread Posts" to see if there are any of interest. 90% of them I ignore. Hoever I do find posts of interest which are not financially oriented.

If you wish to, you can go to ADVFN and read the mountains of drivel posted there. I go there for various reasons, but 99% or more of the posts are not worth even looking at. Fortunately they have a filter option, and certain topics have posters who are almost 100% filtered. I don't think that I have lost anything by that.

As Old Bill said, if you can find a better 'ole, go to it.

maybe its time for somebody who wants an investment only site to create one?

its probably no more than a wordpress template hosted on some free/very cheap web space, and a cheap domain name slapped on it .

Are TLF moderators supposed to read every post on the boards they moderate? If so that would imply there is no point in reporting any post, since you will see them anyway, and can act as appropriate.

Reports alert us to a possible problem. We would not necessarily feel the same way about a post as the reporter. Much of what I do is sorting out mis-attributions or dodgy tags.

Well my 3 posts on the subject, politely agreeing with Dod's OP and sentiments (that there aren't enough investment posts and that there are too many other topics and posts on non-investment subjects), have all been removed, so that's the last straw that breaks the camel's back as far as I am concerned. So I have now left.

Goodbye everyone. Thanks for the investment input over the years.

Make sure you keep a copy of what you post, in case its indiscriminately removed, just because a moderator disagrees with you.

When I was younger it seemed to me as if my love life was about quantity. These days it's more about quality. There doesn't seem to be any less enjoyment, for which I can assure you, I remain very grateful ;)

I've just had a peruse of the moderator logs. I went back over a week before I found a deleted post of yours. You deleted it yourself.

Nevertheless you are right that posts could be deleted if a moderator or admin feels they breach rules/guidelines. An alternative to keeping a copy of every post would be to request a copy of your deleted post from us.

Apologies, the 3 posts I made on this thread hadn't been deleted. It was my mistake. I was aware I had posted them fairly early on, on the thread, - I thought about half a dozen posts after the OP's initial post. (So) When I went back later, the thread was on a second page, so I looked back at the first page, to read what I had missed, and couldn't see my posts there, so I rather too quickly jumped to the conclusion they had been removed, particularly as Dod had mentioned one or more of his had disappeared. However, mine were still there, albeit on the second page of the thread!

So, apologies to moderators and readers on that one.

The above said, the sentiment behind my earlier posts (and Dod's), that the TLF has moved away from financial posts and discussions, still stands, and so I think it is time that quietly I slip away into the sunset. In fact, my ideal/preferred IT portfolio is now fully in place, so I have less need to research and hunt out potential contenders. (And I can read general news and debate in a multitude of other places, even on occasions the BBC!)

Regards to all,

Richfool
