Donate eyes to science
I've decided to donate my eyes to science, they have a totally unique ability. They are the only eyes that can see the big one-way arrows and No Entry signs in the hospital carpark on my twice-daily visits over the past 3 weeks.

I know quite a lot about dialysis and it surely does not need twice daily visits? Alternate days should be all that is required but anyway let’s hope that kiloran is OK.
I take his point about drivers ignoring signs though as it is more than annoying although hospital car parks are not usually known as being race tracks.

Did he not tell us that he volunteers to drive people to and from hospital appointments?
I seem to recall that.

That sounds much more likely, I hope!

Re: Donate eyes to science
Sincere apologies folks, my attempt at a vaguely humourous rant was written in haste and I didn't think about what might be read into my words.
I'm fine. My wife isn't. She went into hospital over 3 weeks ago with a chest infection which then developed into pneumonia, then she got covid (despite testing negative when she arrived 4 days previously), ICU, High Dependency, Covid ward, and now, for the past two weeks, delirium. I had no idea that older people, especially with covid, are very susceptible to delirium. And delirium is tough. As an ex-engineer, 2 plus 2 equals 4. Always. No exceptions. With mental issues such as delirium, 2 plus 2 equals the square root of a box of frogs. Except on the first tuesday of the month. Every time I see my wife, it's a different lass, impossible to hold any form of sensible conversation. Constant, repetitive, meaningless chatter for hours on end, anger, frustration, no idea how her brain can keep so active for hour after hour. They hope that it will subside over the next few weeks, but no promises, every case is different.
Apologies I'm straying into Comfort Cafe territory. And I still hate the other idiot drivers in the carpark

p.s. the nursing staff are stunningly brilliant, the way they deal with such difficult patients as my wife. Can't be praised enough. I can't say the same for most of the pompous, male, difficult to contact doctors.

Sorry to hear your missus is ill.
But let's hope it is indeed delirium due to the lurgy. The symptoms you describe could also be rapid-onset dementia. And if it's that, your chances of getting her back may be remote.
If she's in a covid ward, do they let you in? Do you need to wear a spacesuit?

Re: Donate eyes to science
Bloody hell, kiloran, I'm so sorry to hear about your poor missus.
Been there, at least partially. I was delirious in hospital with bacterial pneumonia about ten years ago, but at least I could blame that on the opiates they were giving me. (Max strength codeine converts to morphine in the liver.) I was seeing little green monsters running around the room, which wasn't as much fun as it sounds. And I wasn't making much sense to anybody - but heck, why change the habit of a lifetime?
Wishing your wife a full recovery, and hoping that it gets a bit easier for you soon. You must be exhausted. Hang in there.

My cousin is just over 12 years my senior. He had similar symptoms at the start of the year. Not pleasant. Hopefully with all the great care she is getting your wife will recover quickly.
Take care

She's in a single room and I had to wear mask, visor, gloves and apron, with visiting at any time (I've had 8 hour days there). She's now covid-free so just a mask is required. They're keeping her in the covid ward for now to give some stability, the nursing staff know her well and can detect any changes. Today was the best, calmest day for a couple of weeks and they think they can increase the dosage of the mood suppressant. Fingers crossed
