Part of the "mystery" is due to the stone holes F , G and H being dismissed as being caused by long gone vegetation even though , with the missing stone P , they form three pairs which mark the alignment of "official" sunset at Midsummer and Midwinter Solstice and the Vernal and Autumn Equinox.

Another secret is that the Horseshoe Trilithons are dedicated to the period of Venus ,with the gap representing the invisibility of Venus at apogee and perigee.
