Very elegant. And all engineered to withstand an earthquake!

Takao-san Interchange in Hachioji-shi, northwest of Tokyo. Japan has some tremendous engineering, an incredible number of tunnels often in completely unnecessary locations!

That doesn't surprise me. Japan spent most of the 1990s and early noughties trying to restart its stalled economy by building all sorts of nonsensical projects - bridges to nowhere, tunnels to nowhere much, and IIRC, airports in all the wrong places, including on islands with few inhabitants. The BBC reports that they also built a modern art museum in Nagoya "which cost so much that there was no money left over to buy any art".

But what the heck, it all created jobs for a while. And that is how Japan came to have a public debt equivalent to 2.5 times GDP. 8-)

Perhaps a subtle Japanese joke: it looks a bit like a Mobius strip entered (once only) at a "Gaijin turn left" sign.

Nagoya's tourist website is nagoyaisnotboring.com

I think James Milner thought of that one.

I spent a week there once and it does have limited sights to see. But the Toyota factory tour is worth a day.

It's 7.45am. I am stuck at the keyboard currently. Operation "Early Dawn" has commenced

So I've got to pass the next hour which probably means I'll be up to no good

I thought this picture may just give you a little chuckle.

The mod's message has rather blunted the point of the original post yes?

On a much more serious note and please feel free to talk about this behind his back. Bungee's 70 in a couple of weeks. We don't know the exact date as yet but interrogators feel they should have that out of him by dinner time. I think they've promised him a double sherry to get him to fess up.

My lockdown social was a raging success last night. Absolutely no one came which is the best I could have hoped for really. I know next doors cat threatened to come through our dog door again but he seems to have got the message that our border collie feels this is a great challenge for her.

LOL, thanks AiY, but if I let my hair down it'll be a bit of a sorry sight watching me trying to retrieve both of them. :D And the blinding glare off my birthday bonce will be bound to spoil all the photos. Nice thought, though, much appreciated!

It's open to AsleepInYorkshire to repost the image as an embedded image with "an additional link (URL) to a web page where the original may be viewed in context" - i.e. basically a link to where he or she found it. Indeed, anyone else could do so if they can locate a web page where it appears in context - but AsleepInYorkshire probably has the advantage over the rest of us of having actually seen such a web page...

Not exactly, I think - those are links to the original, not to "a web page where the original may be viewed in context", i.e. they're not supplying any context... I'm uncertain whether they'll be considered to adequately adhere to the site rule, but something like the following adheres better to it:

Good point.

For the interchange,

The image appears rather a lot on such sites as Reddit, Pinterest, Imgur, Facebook... Sometimes, the "original" is hard to find.

Thanks! That definitely added some interesting background to the OP's image, and also highlighted some other interesting images - I particularly liked the Ohashi Junction's roof garden, which looks like it's designed to be used as a park, and I've found https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meguro_Sky_Garden to confirm that. Infrastructure designers in this country could definitely learn a lesson from it...
