Tacoma Narrows bridge collapse, 1940

I'd seen this film before - who hasn't? - but somehow the enormity of the situation had faded. This was only a 35 mph wind, dammit! And it had been open for only four months. :|

Apparently the only casualty was a three-legged dog which had refused to get out of the car. If I'd been its owner (a newspaper journalist) or the engineering specialist who tried in vain to rescue it (moustache and raincoat), I don't think I'd have walked away from it, I'd have set a new olympic record. :lol:
