Google Finance website

I used to like the old version of google finance. You could have a portfolio or watchlist and open live tabs of individual shares and watch your chosen share chart in the background. Then when it achieved your buy criteria, log on to the broker and press buy (or sell)

Then they "improved it" for our benefit apparently. Go rid of all the useful bits and left a shell with a list of shares that couldn't be "sorted" in any meaningful way. you could still get a live price but it didn't really refresh properly.

Then this morning, I accidently clicked on the link to find its been changed. I think it must have happened in the last week or so.

Its got :- colour, sortable columns.

I hope its the start of something good and some charts get added. There is a default version but its basic. I wonder if anyone else remembers the old version or could suggest further improvements that could/should be implemented

I've relied on Yahoo Finance for years for following the markets, my portfolio, news, analysis (TA etc). I did look at and use Google Finance for a while but many years ago and not for long.
IME each of such providers have their strengths/weaknesses, it depends what precisely you require of them. Meanwhile FWIW if it helps at all.... https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/

@diamondecho

I do use yahoo finance but my concern was about Google version that was useful, to me anyway. Then the "improvement" which made it worse.

Now it has been changed, yes it's better that at its worst IMO. Hopefully there will be more positive changes

I have a "live price" google sheets share spreadsheet. Today its seems to be having issues with every share. Occasionally it has "lost" a share price but never them all. It uses the:- =GOOGLEFINANCE("lon:gsk","price") to get GSK's live share price and then further calculations of profit and PF totals etc.

I wonder if the "improvements" are the cause??

Ill try again tomorrow. They were normally only out for a few hours on previous occasions.

Just tried my portfolio Google sheet, and it's full of "#N/A".

EDIT: the error message is "Error When evaluating GOOGLEFINANCE, the query for the symbol: 'XXX' returned no data." where XXX is the symbol after LON:

Scott.
