All images are mine.

Image
1. A tin of bits, but what are they for?

Image
2. What is this item?

Image
Image
3. What would this have been used for?

Image
4. What is this?

Image
5. This is upside-down as it wouldn't stand up the right way. This one is from Belgium but similar items were (and still are) used in the UK. What, specifically, is it?

Image
6. It's made from beech but what is it?

Image
7. What is this wooden item? The insert is brass.

Image
8. What is this brass object?

Image
9. What would this be used for?

Image
10. What is this tool?

I'm pretty sure......

No.1 is a puncture repair kit but I didn't think they made them as old as that one appears.

6 I agree it's for beating / shaping lead for roofing but I can't remember what it's called.

8 is obviously some sort of knock in tap but it must be specific to particular use.

Answers so far,

1. Correct answer doug2500, it is a "Dunlop Reddiplug Kit for Tubeless Tyres". Looking at photos of ones in much better condition on the 'net, I seem to have an item missing.
2. Not a cable gland. It is one-piece and made of steel.
3. Not a film developing timer but on the right track.
4. Some sort of heater. Can you be more specific?
5. I am looking for a specific answer to this one. Few people will have owned one but almost everyone will have seen what this is a part of.
6. Correct answer staffordian and doug2500, is is a lead bossing stick.
7. Nothing to do with leather or suede.
8. Another correct answer staffordian, it is a cask tap for the dispense of real ale. New ones are almost always plastic.
9. -
10. Correct answer Scott, it is a tap reseating tool. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Scottool-Tap-R ... B00K32R2L0 .

Oh that's pleasing to hear. The Scottool tap reseating tool is the best tap re-seating tool money can buy, but sadly they vanished from the market a couple of years ago when I needed to replace mine. Delighted to see they are once again available!

My guess for No 3 would be a speed chess timer, and for 5 I too think it's an electric clock movement.

And curiously I too have a No 8 which I found in my shed yesterday. Absolutely identical to yours.

Nothing to do with an induction hob but keep guessing.

eepee wrote:5 Mechanism from an old punching-in/out timing clock?

Not part of a clocking-in machine.

Regrettably "Currently unavailable" on Amazon and elsewhere. A quick search has failed to find any Scottool product in stock except for the odd spare cutter :(

No. 3 has nothing to do with chess.

If the lockdown continues, I may need to go shopping and put mine to use :)

Not any sort of printing.

Oh that's disappointing. I don't use Amazon, preferring eBay. On eBay you can't list things for sale when you don't actually have any to sell. Naïvely I imagined this applied to Amazon too. Silly me!

I don't use Amazon much. I think Amazon themselves keep items listed, even after they are obsolete, possibly in case a vendor wants to sell used products or NOS. I find eBay's search facilities are far superior.

Interesting guess but not right.

"Electric clock movement" was close but I want something more specific. It is out of something that you may not have heard of but I reckon that everyone here will have seen one.

Well, if it has a timing function we have had so far;
Electric clock
Time card stamper
Parking meter
ermm...
Washing machine controller (doesn't look like a sequencer though)
Oven control unit
Streetlight controller
Flux capacitor???

Keep thinking along the lines of an electric clock. I don't want to accept that as the correct answer (that would be too easy), I want something more specific. You may not have heard of one of these before but try to guess what it does.

It is not for controlling a kitchen appliance, street lights or anything-else. There are no electrical contacts, just two terminals for the coils. I did try using it as a flux capacitor to get next week's lottery numbers but it didn't work.

Part of a petrol pump is interesting but it is not that. I remember those old mechanical displays and recall that there were problems when the mechanisms couldn't cope with increased petrol prices. I think it was about a pound a gallon at the time. That reminds me of an old Open University program when a long-haired mathematician buys some petrol and it comes to 37p or something like that.

I'm pretty sure number 5 is indeed an electric clock - specifically a slave clock, which would be driven by electrical pulses from a master clock elsewhere in the building so all the clocks stay in step. They were quite common in all kinds of large buildings at one point, but as this one appears to have a drive for hands on both sides I'm guessing it's from a railway station.
