NotSure

Bit swings and roundabouts for Elon - he had a handsome bonus last Q, but his equity holding in Tesla has shed around $20B. He could have funded half a dozen Mars Perseverance type missions for that!

Yes, but if he had sold, the share price would have likely taken a big hit and I doubt $20B would fund even one Mars Perseveranace type mission.

The Cost of Perseverance, in Context

More modest than you might think
NASA expects to spend approximately $2.7 billion on the Perseverance rover project. This number can sound large, even excessive, to some—but it’s a number that demands context. Let’s give it some..

https://www.planetary.org/articles/cost-of-perseverance-in-context

https://www.republicworld.com/technology-news/science/perseverance-rover-cost-learn-how-much-did-it-cost-to-build-the-perseverance-rover.html

20 / 2.7 is less than 6 (it's about $2.9B if accounting for inflation - most of the spend occurred several years ago now - but still well under 6).

If Musk wished to, he could afford to bombard Mars in state-of-the-art probe missions. Albeit, 6 less than before he got into BTC....

Regards,

No, missions to Mars are really quite cheap these days :)

The mission is expected to cost $2.7 billion, rising to $2.9 billion when inflation is factored in.

Thank you for the corrections.

I was not thinking about an instruments mission, but about Musk's ideas to send people to Mars.

The cost for Apollo was $283 billion after inflation adjustment, $28 billion at the time.

https://www.planetary.org/space-policy/cost-of-apollo

But in the letter and detail I was wrong for which I apologise.

Amusing comment about Elon Musk’s twitter complaint about delays at the German plant:

"The guy who started selling FSD in 2016, revealed a semi and roadster in 2017, and revealed a cyber truck in 2019 wants the Germans to hurry up!"

And in California:

Tesla needs their suppliers to hurry up!

Tesla is stuck with over 10,000 cars on factory hold, resulting in a logistical nightmare

Joe Biden, sporting aviator sunglasses, looked out from the driver's seat of Ford's new electric truck and delivered a presidential proclamation: "This sucker's quick."

No longer being allowed to drive on public roads has been described as the worst part of being a president or ex-president. As somebody who actually likes cars it must be driving Biden mad...

BTC is having an identity crisis. Has anybody worked out a range for the price Tesla could have bought at?

42 minute launch video for the new Ford-150 Lightning electric pickup truck:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-MRIfAR764

Odd loss of sound but otherwise an impressive launch and a serious contender for market share in the pickup market.

Ford explicitly say that the Lightning can power a house for 3 days and it looks to be well designed with a very generous Frunk and a low starting price.

A brief visit by Tesla boss Elon Musk to Luton has ignited rumours that he is considering a Tesla factory in the UK.

The electric car mogul flew into Luton Airport on a private jet last weekend and stayed two days, reports say.

[...]
The plane then moved on to Germany, where Mr Musk paid a visit on Monday to the site of Tesla's large "gigafactory", which has been plagued by delays.

Guess you don't need to follow the self-isolation rules if you are rich enough.

Rules and legislation are there to keep the poor folk in order. They don't apply to rich folk and their
political friends.
