SN11 reaches 10 km, engines shut off, falls to 1 Km, restart of one engine for landing, but then seems to have experienced rapid, unscheduled decomission. Fragments can be seen raining down:

Has it crossed anybody's mind that Space X might be more profitable as a manufacturer of cruise-esque missiles? They've got the target seeking and the blowy up when you get there bit down to a fine art!

SpaceX is a private company, so we don't know what the margins are. However, based on the private investors who have seen the books and have been clamouring to buy it seems fairly certain that the margins are extremely good and almost certainly a lot better than the commodity margins that a defence contractor makes.

If this comes off, I can see that after all bad-mouthing of Toyota on this thread, they will suddenly become wonderful.
Don't Toyota make wonderful SUVs? And their hybrids are the most reliable cars on the road.

Very slow news on BEV front, so all manner of improbable stuff now getting printed.
Let's not forget Toyota had a stake in Tesla which they sold & which now would be worth several billion more than they got.

Re: Musk endeavours
Biden infrastructure proposals much as expected with the return of the $7500 rebate for buying an electric car, but details are not clear to me and whether this will help Tesla I am not sure even if it is passed as sent to congress which is not a common occurrence:
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/biden-in ... 01969.html
Tesla a few days ago did say they were opening up their supercharger network to other marques which may have been a quid-pro-quo to get the $7500 rebate back on their motors.

Tesla are expecting to produce and deliver 1 million cars this year. This suggests that the numbers for q1 will be strong and that Tesla are not currently facing any impact from chip shortages.
Several other aspects of the call were more difficult to substantiate, but 1 million cars per year made and delivered would be just over 100% increase from last year.
To put this in perspective this, if reached, would be about 10% of VW's production, this from a new company that most executives in legacy auto said could not survive and compete. Tesla was founded in 2003 and the model S was launched in 2012.
Regards,
How strong do you think the Q1 figures will be?
To be on track to deliver a million cars this year, a strong result would be around 200,000 sales in Q1.
The pundits are suggesting 180,000 would be good for Q1. Anything lower might be disappointing. Sales of the Model Y in China and the US will be key.

Given that the appropriations clause gives Congress control of the purse strings it is not very surprising at all that a multibillion dollar spending plan is going to congress...

Factset are estimating 172,000 vehicles, Tesla daily have a 17 minute video on estimates:

Generally we have several drags, S & X refresh and re-launch, slightly less days in this quarter, transitions to casting production,...
There could be variance with S & X as although they have transistioned to new models they had inventory from previous models that may have been sold so S & X may have different production and delivery numbers.

Nice article.
Interesting how Starship can be co2 neutral using sewage gas.
Hyperloop has looked from the beginning the way of future terrestrial travel.
It continues to blow my mind that the UK is spending a fortune on Victorian technology known as HS2 when the money could go into the much more future proof and much more environmentally sound boring technology.

Yes, VW's ICE vehicles are very profitable. Glad you are finally promoting that fact Ody.
Reading the article, I see that VW's profits from ICE vehicles are also funding the launch of five new VW BEV models in China this year.
They really know how to ramp up the launching of BEVs. Assuming that their marketing is as good as it usually is, VW may soon be the leading BEV manufacturer worldwide?
Will we read that they are recruiting more staff to cope with the increase in sales?

When you sell as many cars in by far the world's biggest car market as the second and third best selling manufacturers you are going to need a lot of credits, and you can afford to pay for them.
In the short term VW could buy every credit Tesla generate in China without it making a substantive difference to either company's wellbeing. This is a good thing for Tesla because with ID.4 deliveries starting and Anting and Forshan ramping up it would be unfortunate if any credit sales to VW constituted more than pocket money to them.

VW-Audi, launched the Frankenstein e-tron, buggy and full of literal rain leaks into the interior.
They repeated with the ID3 having recruited a ton of software engineers and the ID3 has all manner of problems, so many that punters refused to buy it and VW had to sell a load of them to their own employees.
The e-tron was then completely done over and the original e-tron like the orginal e-golf cut a drift and left with very unhappy punters.
ID4 continues this long and miserable tradition of vehicles with flakey over the air updates, buggy electronics and a whole host of other troubles.
Meanwhile VW along with GM continues to turn out very low cost BEV in partnership with local makers, everyone of these sold removes a market for their ICE and for every ICE they do sell, they have to pay Tesla.
I realise the economics of this may be a big challenging, but in simple terms: VW are like the competitors to Rockefeller, unable to get the prices he got because a portion of their spend was being re-directed to Rockefeller with the result that in the by and by they all had serious financial troubles.
