Gifting of US shares to Daughter in UK

#480099

Postby vijayvijayakv » February 12th, 2022, 12:53 am

I have substantial investment US shares in a brokerage account ( Charles Schwab) invested several years ago when I was working in USA. Recent discussion in Lemon fool forum with respect to Estate tax in USA for non resident/non US national ( above 60 K USD) prompted me to think if it is possible to gift my US shares to my daughter based in UK (which I understand is considered non situs as per gift tax laws in US). My daughter will need to brokerage account in UK ( like Charles Schwab international). She can continue investment in US stock once she gets these shares. Are there any major watch-outs in this approach?. I am a UK national currently in Asia
