Your Monthly Savings Date

#319099

Postby BT63 » June 17th, 2020, 2:00 pm

Earlier someone said to me:

'.....nearly every month when my pension contribution gets invested, the market seems to be higher that day than the day before or the day after..... It's as if the collective buying that lunchtime pushes prices up for everyone....'

I would be interested to know which date(s) of the month you make your regular contributions.

Thanks,
BT

ps
Before the stock markets fell earlier this year, my regular contributions were 1st, 4th (but not invested until 6th) and 16th. During the crash I added several other dates, scattered through the month.

In answer to your question, I don't.

But it sounds like suffering from confirmation bias to me.

My Halifax ISA

I don't know if your chum uses these institutions but there isn't one day when all regular investments are pooled. I think he's noticed the very common investment premise of the law of Sod. Soon as you buy em they fall.
Thinking aloud are there enough pounds behind these small private investors to push the market that much, well I suppose if the shares liquidity were low enough.

You can see a record of the value of trades for a stock on each day in the past month on the LSE website, eg for Vanguard FTSE Developed World ETF (VEVE): https://www.londonstockexchange.com/sto ... rade-recap

(or the number of trades per day). On the few I've looked at, there isn't an obvious peak on days that major brokers have regular dealing days (to add to the ones given above, II uses the 3rd Wednesday of the month, ie today).
