Pay down the capital quickly, or venture into share ownership?

I wouldn't invest in the stock market just before a large fall in values

Would you care to share your methodology?

The technique has already been explicitly given. It's called "hindsight".

Now, is there an online course for that?

:-)

Would the older members of Lemon Fool done this with the benefit of hindsight?
.

At that time I was getting decent pay increases, so I upped my monthly mortgage repayments to pay the capital sum down more quickly. I had no idea about the stock market back then - it wasn't until 1987 that I had my first venture into share ownership, investing a small inheritance just a few weeks before Black Monday. With the benefit of hindsight, I wouldn't do that again.[/quote]

Just out of interest, how much profit would you be in now, assuming you still have it.

I read an article about the "worst investor" that put lump sums in at some of the peaks just before big falls. The conclusion was it was still worth doing over the longer term. Hopefully most people fare better.
