Jan Morris RIP

I am surprised that no one has posted to mark the death of this interesting author. She of course was James Morris who got the scoop on the conquest of Everest in 1953 and went on to write a number of interesting books on Venice, Trieste, Manhattan and other places.

She also had an interesting personal life with a sex change in 1972 I think, after which she stayed on with her original wife, with whom she had had five children. They still lived together at the time of Jan Morris's death yesterday, by this time, in a civil partnership.

I agree Dod, she was a great writer. Her Venice book is one of my favourites. She lived a long and varied life and I am sure will be missed by many.
