Enjoyed his 'Morse' books

As did I, shame there were so few, unlike the TV series which milked things rather, though Thaw was always worth watching.

13 novels, 33 TV episodes apparently.
Happy memories of watching the original run when I was a student down in Plymouth in the 80s - they seemed to last all night -actually just short of 2 hrs I think
A friend was from Oxford and liked spotting the locations, although a lot of stuff was actually filmed around Ealing (where I moved in 95) and occasionally Eton (near where I live now...)

It was always fun trying to spot him in each episode as 'man in background ordering pint', 'pedestrian crossing road', or 'man behind newspaper in common room.'

Reading that he was a classics scholar and ex teacher I thought, I wonder if he was the Mr Dexter who taught me Latin in the 60s in Peterborough, since he was born locally and went to Cambridge just like my Latin teacher.

Turns out he taught down the road at Corby grammar while it was his brother John Dexter that I remember from schooldays.
