Lost date and time

#216243

Postby Garless » April 19th, 2019, 5:35 pm

I have an old Canon powershot 710. Still takes adequate photos but no longer records date and time. Every time I switch it on it asks me to set date/time then forgets it before I take a photo. Last import to my MacBook was date stamped as year 1332 so it looks like a date rollover because of a storage limit. Anyone else seen something similar or am I the only one too be using such an old camera :(

Not sure if you're aware, but many of the Powershots have a separate date/time clock battery....

Here's a guide on replacing it on a PowerShot A710 IS, which is hopefully similar to your own model, or at least gives you an idea of where you might be able to find it on yours -

Many thanks, mine is identical to the diagram. Never noticed the separate battery before. I chose the camera as the main battery could be a higher capacity photo one or a pair of AA ones, useful when travelling.

Discovered my local Jessops do not stock such outdated batteries. Ordered via Amazon, should have done that before as Jessops is now just a printing shop, no cameras or equipment on sale :(

Small lithium batteries are a nightmare to get hold of locally at times.

Halfords stock the CR1220 type if you've got one close by and have any issues with your Amazon delivery, although at a fiver a pop they're probably a lot more expensive than your Amazon price - https://www.halfords.com/kids-zone/toys-games/household-batteries/energizer-cr1220-battery

I find that Boots have a reasonable range. Something to do with the hearing aids they sell.

Thanks for replies, now have a working camera again. My large Boots did not stock the battery I needed, just the same more modern ones that Jessops and Sainsburys did. The Amazon delivery came with a German post mark, how they make a profit at the price I don't know but it looks a genuine named make.
