My C5050Z is on my knee. Changing the batteries. It retains some of the settings, but not all. Not the date for instance... nor the saturation.

I like saturated shots. I set it to 3 out of 5. Unless I forget. Then I use my Viewer 2 software to rectify my absent-mindedness.

Is there any difference? Between saturation at point of shot, and saturation subsequently applied?

The memory capacitor going on the C5050 range is unfortunately rather common, but if you've got a steady hand and a small-tipped soldering iron, then the fix is relatively straight-forward.

Short answer, yes but highly unlikely you will notice it unless you make a big print or the image was very low quality to begin with.

Camera settings such as sharpness, contrast and saturation are made after point of shot, they are applied during the process to create the resultant JPEG (they are ignored if shooting RAW, but may be used as a starting point during the RAW post processing software.)

Any changes to a JPEG will result in a lower quality output, but it may well be negligible. It all depends on the initial image quality and how you view the image, small screen or large print.

I'd no idea this was a fault. I'm on my third C5050Z, they have all lost the same settings.
As to soldering, the hand is steady but the eyes no longer have it.
Nevertheless, I hope your pointer will assist someone else.
