Astonishing, isn't it. 30 years. And the technology is probably more like 35-40 years old, taking into account the design and manufacture cycle.

Just think what its replacement will be able to do, if it ever finally gets off the ground (currently planned for March 2021 but likely to be delayed further).... James Webb Space Telescope https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Web ... _Telescope

Nasa, SpaceX study Hubble telescope re-boost mission

BBC News

Nasa and the SpaceX rocket company are to study the feasibility of running a private astronaut mission to extend the life of the Hubble telescope.

"The orbiting observatory, one of the greatest instruments in the history of science, is gradually losing altitude.

If nothing is done to re-boost it, the telescope will eventually fall into the atmosphere and burn up.

so 32 years since I was on night shifts during LEOP (launch and early orbit phase) for the hubble launch team... where does the time go?

I think Im gradually losing altitude also....
