Death rates

#313522

Postby Stonge » May 29th, 2020, 11:25 pm

So I've been monitoring (recording) the new infections and new deaths each day (as published on the Gov) websites.

Today Fri 29th May there were 324 new deaths and on Friday 10th April there were 980 new deaths (which didn't include care home and community at that time) so I hope the downward trend is true and will continue.

So today is the last time I will bother recording the numbers each day. I might choose a day of the week (probably Weds) and do it once a week from now on.

TBH it got boring having to turn on the PC each day and write the numbers down in a little book.

Actuary in training methinks :D Though cutting back might indicate a slight preference for something more exciting, such as accountancy.

When I was one (an Actuary) mortality and morbidity statistics used to be an excellent conversation stopper with civilians, who couldn't get away fast enough. Nowadays I'm getting emails and Facebook requests asking my opinion on mortality statistics and number of deaths. It's a different world.

The daily death figures are appallingly presented. They make it sound that if X deaths are announced today this means that X people died of coronavirus on the previous day. The charts in the NHS spreadsheets showing deaths per day (with the most recent adjustments) should be front and centre of any presentation, not buried in spreadsheets on the NHS website. They should also mention recoveries from hospitalisation.

More errors in the daily data for UK on worldometers?

Deaths are quoted as 39045 which is 556 over the previous day of 38489 not 111.

If deaths were 111 then total is 38600.

I wonder what will emerge tomorrow 3rd June?

It has been well reported that the brought forward number was adjusted.
