Having read a thread on DAK about hiding wills, a reference was made to a government website giving probate details. I was aware that after probate this information is publicly available, but I didn't realise the extent of information now available online for free.
Searching for a surname and year (advanced searches for some years are available to enable results to be narrowed down) gives a view of the pages of the Probate Register, which gives name, address, date of death, date of probate, and amount (or band) of estate. Up until now, as far as was aware, this sort of information needed an Ancestry subscription or similar.
The website is https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills
