DIY filling?

I've just lost a large filling in one of my molars and it will be a couple of weeks til I can get to see a dentist. Some random non-expert reckoned I should do a DIY temporary filling to protect the remaining tooth. Can't say I fancy the idea and suspect I'll just be careful chewing. Any views? It's not currently painful.

I've used Temparin Max and it's fine for a temporary filling (dentist said it was quite a good job...)
I carry some in my 'hiking/camping' IFAK just in case

(you could phone and ask the dentist if it's recommended..)

I've had fillings and crowns drop out from time to time, and, as long as they don't hurt, or scream at the touch of a cold drink, I've always been happy enough to leave them alone until a dentist can get to them. (Up to a month, say?)

One time, I lost a crown on the first day of a three week foreign holiday, and it didn't give me the least bit of trouble. (Luckily, I was able to rescue the lost crown before it went the way of all things. :D ) Upon my return, the dentist gave the cavity the quickest of once-overs with the coarse cleaning-up drill, and I was fixed in twenty minutes, no anaesthetic required.

Thanks. I expect I'll be leaving it alone and hoping for the best...

I read this thread, and the mention of "Fuji IX" rang bells with me, and I couldn't think why. Now it's suddenly come back to me, so if you'll forgive the diversion, I'd refer you to a YouTube video, from "Would I lie to you?" All will be revealed!
