Emergency Oxygen at Home

#488373

Postby PhaseThree » March 22nd, 2022, 6:57 pm

A month or so ago i discovered my 90 year old mother unconscious and unresponsive in her armchair. (She lives in an attached annex). An ambulance was called and immediately dispatched. We managed to bring her around and found she was having significant problems breathing. A blood oxygen reading returned a value of 78% indicating very low oxygen levels.

Forty minutes later the Ambulance arrived and immediately administered oxygen and took her off to hospital where she was successfully treated for a pulmonary embolism.

Unfortunately forty minutes is the fastest an ambulance can make the journey to our remote part of the world - I can't help think that we were lucky this time, next time things may be much worse. I would therefore like to obtain some form of emergency oxygen supply just to bridge the time taken to get an ambulance to the house. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I go about this ?

Thanks for that - Unfortunately the NHS will only supply oxygen to those who have a medical condition that requires it. Currently she doesn't meet that requirement so it's a no-go. They wont provide oxygen on a "just in case" basis which is effectively what I'm looking for.

Ideally i'm looking for a small bottle with a mask that I can leave at the back of the cupboard an hopefully never use.

I came up with the same sorts of results as pje16. But, on the clear understanding that I don't properly know what I'm talking about, https://clearo2.com/shop/15l-oxygen-can ... gJNK_D_BwE (100 puffs) would seem to tick some of the boxes?

Thanks both.
The ClearO2 product looks possible albeit with some poor very reviews on Amazon.
Something similar would definitely hit the spot.
