I am trying to help a family member who has held some shares for many years they seem to be with equiniti , computershare and Link.
They want to move them to interactive investor for possible disposal . Are there any easy ways of doing this? Looking at ii they seem to require an account number which they do not have.
Many thanks for any advice.

You need an account with ii to use their services.
If the shares are in paper form, you download and fill in the ii stock transfer form, then post it to them with the share certificates. That presumes you have already set up the account with ii.

Re: Moving shares
If they have selected interactive investor to use (presumably this specific choice means they've looked at the alternatives carefully, and have good reasons for it), then, of course, they need to sign up with ii. How could this work any other way? Can this family member not understand the signing up process or something? Or is it that the ii process sounds too hard for them, and they're asking if ii has a secret easier way to sign up?

Sorry if I have not explained it well. They already have an account with ii . The difficulty is when you click on the transfer shares to ii on the ii website it asks for the account details of where you are moving shares from and as far as I can see equiniti etc don't actually have an account number for the holder.

Thanks I think there may be some problems accessing the paper copies as they may have been lost in moves..

Re: Moving shares
From ii's site, it sounds like this needs to be initiated by getting a form from the Equiniti / Computershare / Link:
ii wrote:Can I transfer shares held with Computershare Registrars, Equiniti Registrars or Link Asset Services?
To transfer shares held electronically with one of the above registrars, you will need to contact your old provider.
Please request a ‘Form E’.
The form will include details of any charges your provider may levy for transferring away from their service. Please note that these charges are levied by your existing provider and not interactive investor.
Return your forms (and cheque for fees if applicable) to:
Transfers Team
interactive investor
2nd floor
One Embankment
Neville Street
Leeds
LS1 4DW
We will then arrange the transfer on your behalf.

I would think the registrars (Computershare etc) still offer a duplicate share certificate service, quite possibly at a price. Provided that dividends are still being received, the annual tax notifications will give a reference or account number.

Oops!
You will, IMO, have to speak to the individual share registrars. Usually, paper shares are sent to the broker with a transfer form and it is a simple 'deposit' type operation. If the shares certificates are lost, you may have to now replace them - this will cost.
OTOH, you don't seem to have made clear what exactly you mean by the shares being "with equiniti , computershare and Link". They are Registrars, so all UK shares are "with" one or other of them. But could you mean that the paper shares have already been transferred to them as brokers, so are already in a nominee account? If so, that would be different and you can sell them via the Registrar's account.
I assume II are asking for the account number originally on the paper shares, these will also be shown on dividend vouchers as "Shareholder Reference".
