Minimum initial investment

#274066

Postby AppleCrumble » December 30th, 2019, 7:44 pm

Looking at the kiid for iShares UK Equity Index Fund (UK) Class D Accumulating it states the minimum initial investment for this unit class is £100,000.

Does this apply to the personal investor or is this for institutions?

I was waiting for someone more knowledgeable to reply but in the absence here's my thoughts... I think it's highly likely that that £100,000 minimum would be cumulative for all the customers of one broker. So on the HL factsheet it says it's a minimum investment of £100. I'm pretty sure it would be the same for other brokers but iWeb and ii do not seem to state it. Please don't pay an extra 0.45% by using HL. Although I own FGT which owns HL so I guess I should be encouraging you to.

I asked iWeb about this and the agent didn't know but said this fund can be traded with any amount over £5.

It applies to the personal investor investing directly with the provider (iShares/Blackrock). As you've found out, if you go via a broker/platform then good chance they (or, more, precisely, their nominee) will have a deal with them that allows you to buy smaller amounts.

Or of course aggregating the holdings of the platform's investors, they are comfortably in excess of the £100,000 anyway. Most platforms will hold the shares in their nominee company's name and will aggregate all the individual holdings so that they show as one holding on the register of shareholders of the fund.

It depends how much money you ready to invest.
