Hello,

I am looking at Day Trading on UK Stocks.

I have a number of parameters in mind to develop my strategy, whilst being harsh and tight when setting stop losses. I also acknowledge that losses are to be taken and that I should not be 'emotionally attached'.

I have found it very difficult to make any headway on finding answers to certain questions.

My first question is, how do I find information on Volume and Float. I have come across many explanations of it on You tube and blogs but I am not sure that it is correct. I would appreciate it if someone could give me a source and a real example. I have looked at Warrior Trading and seen the strategy that is used in his classes but the terms used are different. If I knew the difference between Volume and Float in absence of the 'noise', I would be more confident. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

The other issue concerns good news feeds that may give me a good indication as to what to invest in, I dont' think BBC or Sky News cuts what is used professionally.

I have started paper trading on SaxoTrader, but would this be the best platform to start out on? I know costs vary, but I would be interested in hearing the opinions/views of others.

HealTrader, welcome to The Lemon Fool.

Your questions are interesting, but I just wanted to alert you to the fact that the age of most participants on these discussion boards is probably over 70! The vast majority will also have very little interest in day trading: being old hands they have discovered through study or bitter experience that returns are better with a long-term view than they are in day trading.

Having said that, there are a few posters who either day trade or might have an idea or two for you, just be aware of the above if you don't get much encouragement. And don't mention bitcoin around here!!

You may also find better responses on a Trading Board, not an Investment one, such as "Trading my way to a million"

Again its not a particularly popular activity of many on here but at least has the sub-line of "Honest reporting on shorter-term trading activity and ideas".

There's loads of sources, but thiis should get you started.
I try to keep my hardware resources down for "news" so my feeds come in over linux cli and links2 - as well as more convential browsers.
I can run my "desk" on 500mb for "news". Long term, portfolio investors, so they only dedicated thing program I use is JStock, where I run a scanner on an old computer, more for interest, it's only thrown up a few things I've invested in over an extended period.
I'm certainly not over 70 LOL and I do hold a small position in crypto.
- on a broader note, I'm seeing loads of people adopting "day trading" on my social feeds, that suggests to me the best thing would be to do the opposite LOL
