Hi all
The other day I came across a mention of a novel, written by a man, about the US Civil War, I think with the focus on the Confederates. Came out at the same time as Gone With The Wind but missed out on publicity due to GWTW!!

Of course I was foolish and didn't write down the name- DAK?

Dont know a novel that came out around GWTW, but Bernard Cornwell has written a series of 4 novels focusing on a Confederate soldier in the US civil war.

Rebel
Copperhead
Battle Flag
and The Bloody Ground

Red Badge of Courage is the famous one , but it predates GWTW

Thanks - it was apparently overshadowed - in terms of sales and release - by GWTW so def published around same time.

for some reason I missed Aleister's post with a few suggestions on so along with all others that are in print, I've added them to my reading list.

you know the thing about the Twitter world is you see things so fast - I'm pretty sure if I see it again I will instantly say "That's it" but thank for all the efforts and for adding some great looking stuff to the reading list, I really appreciate it.

Don't take them as recommendations ,as (shamefully) I've read precisely none from that list!
The only 'Civil War' one I've read is 'In the Electric Mist with Confederate Dead' - which is set in the 1990s with 'hallucinated' civil war sections. So it doesn't count...

Aleister, I didn't think you had read them all, but it's cool. I studied the period in depth at A level but oddly haven't read anything of that time since Charles Frazier's Cold Mountain - which I can heartily recommend.

Winter is always a time when I need immersive reading from another time so good to have a list.
